The Art of Clear Boundaries

Boundaries don't have to be walls. Here's how to hold your space with kindness — for yourself and the people you love.

Most of us learned that boundaries are something rigid — a fence, a rule, a hard no. But the boundaries that actually hold tend to look clearer than that. They sound like 'I care about you, and I can't do this tonight.' They sound like 'Let me think about it and come back to you tomorrow.'

A clear boundary is still a boundary. It just leaves the relationship intact. When you give yourself permission to pause before answering, you stop trading your peace for other people's comfort.

Try this week: notice one moment where you would normally say yes on reflex. Pause for three breaths. Ask yourself what you actually want. Then answer from there.

Want to talk it through?
